9 Best Jewellery Pieces, From Cartier and De Beers to Van Cleef & Arpels

Chopard

Is price no object? Put your shades on for this one—the razzle-dazzle is blinding.

For whom the (jingle) bells toll and money no object be, we at Robb Report Hong Kong have several dazzling accessories wrapped in a box… for thee.

Forgive us—‘tis the season for waxing poetic as designer houses have been sending us a glimmer of what to expect this season all week: a wild array of diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and gemstones of note. It came as a trickle and trinket, then a flash flood of candy-coloured stones as all the maisons and went all out for the end-of-year celebrations. A phalanx of rubies and emeralds was almost a predictable colour scheme, and a flush of white diamonds, and a heady mix of the classic and the novel are up for view as well. We parsed through the trough and found these glistening among them.

Our holiday picks include the usual suspects: Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co, of course, but our Robb Report counterparts stateside also encouraged us to look into Hemmerle and other jewellers who are paving the way with pavé diamonds.

TBT 2023: Chow Yun-fat at Chopard: Hong Kong icon and legend on the red carpet!

TBT: Chow Yun-fat at Chopard.

We--the team and I, not the royal 'we'--were heading to interview Chopard's Caroline Scheufele, Chopard's President and artistic designer, when we heard on the day that the VIP guest was Hong Kong icon and cine-legend himself. Word spread quickly and the crowds gathered, went berserk when he walked in with his wife.

Last of the super duper stars.

Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele opened the new Chopard store in Central Hong Kong, with an above-the-title theme, Chopard Loves Cinema. Fitting considering the brand's long association with Cannes Film Festival, the Palm D'or and their latest line, The Red Carpet Collection - which you can read about in my column 🤓in Best of the Best 2024, by Robb Report Hong Kong

The world's most popular actress-Julia Roberts-is the face of the brand currently, but the Oscar-winner didn't fly down to Asia for the opening, though her presence was visible as there are posters of the American actress wallpapered around the store front. How to make a wave in a city that never sleeps and sees stars fly in and out with regularity? You find a hidden dragon; 'the' Chow Yun-fat arrived looking a decade younger than he is. All smiles and charm and at peace with his severely awesome self, even when the crowds were chanting, then screaming his name. That true-blue-movie-star charisma and legendary status will never fade. Icons only. 😎

Chopard’s Caroline Scheufele on Balancing Art and Business, Her Love of Cinema, and the Jewellery She Never Takes Off

An intimate, reflective conversation with the jeweller to the stars.

Caroline Scheufele juggles many a plate mid-air with manicured efficiency as both co-president and artistic director of Chopard. Jet lag doesn’t seem to bother her—the jet-setting jeweller to the stars struts the red carpet with nonchalant ease, greeting the A-listers of Asia with an affable charm that comes with constant proximity to fame.

Interview with Chopard's Caroline Scheufele. On video

In the latest edition of Leaders of Luxury, I had the rare opportunity to speak with Caroline Scheufele, who needs little introduction among the glitterati. As the artistic director and co-president of Chopard, Scheufele juggles her double role with elegant ease, creating some of the most beautiful jewellery in the world and heading a global business empire with her family. During her visit to Hong Kong to unveil the newest Chopard store with some of Asia’s brightest stars, Scheufele reveals what luxury means to her, how she got the elusive Julia Roberts to star in a campaign, and which jewellery pieces she never, ever takes off.
