TBT: My first interview with Feipeing Chang

This wedding was the talk of the town - and probably the most 'seen' and 'liked' event on Social media that went so viral - Vogue picked it up (and so did Daily Mail - but that's another story). I don't remember when and where or how I met Fei, but she was always a bejewelled little spark on the social circuit. So we did this jewellery shoot - and then went on to do several others over the years.

After a long, long, long cover shoot, when I finally got home, found a little note in my pocket written by my cover star David Oshry.

Handwriting of a serial killer no?

Kidding.

Just so happens that over the past decade, he's someone I've worked with the most over the years. Not just cause he's the best in the biz, he's on time, never complains, treats everyone with kindness and respect, is a good laugh between long pauses between shots... and then he leaves without bothering anyone else.

Usually we work with models once and never again - oh that gal Ekta B comes to mind quel dommage et horreur -  but simply being professional works in favour of everyone involved.

Thanks Bubz. And yeah - see you soon. On set.

Glam Squad: It takes a village...

Ipso facto, the village people?! lols. No!

Behind the scenes, photographers, stylists, makeup artists and hair stylists, assistants and interns, lighting assists, re-touchers, designers, layout artists, art directors... all for that one single perfect shot in print (and online!).

It's been a joy and learning experience with all these people who made the magazine look good for as long as it did.

Images from Tasha Ling's birthday bash a few years ago but she pulled together so many people we work with often. Too many to list!

TBT: Rishi Kapoor in Hong Kong for India by the Bay

What an extraordinarily difficult year its been - and we aren't even half way through.

When Amitabh Bachchan first tweeted that Rishi Kapoor was no more, felt a genuine pang as a huge part of my youth and Bollywood history died with him.

Rishi Kapoor was in Hong Kong for India by the Bay a few years ago and I had the opportunity to interview him for the paper. Unfortunately, not sure what happened behind the scenes in the office (I was a freelancer, not full time staff) but even though I filed the article and images, it never got printed.

Until yesterday.

You look, but you do not see...

And now for a chapter titled ... Had I known or paid attention...

This was a few years ago, 'the' Cate Blanchett was in town for IWC, promoting the brand as she was the ambassador for the luxury watch. I was at the media preview at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, where they had converted the mezzanine floor to a lavish exhibition of over-sized photographs of iconic actors in black and white imagery.

A man was constantly by Ms Blanchett's side and I paid no attention to him as kept talking to her as I waved frantically like a howler monkey on crack to get her to look into the direction of my photographer.

We so desperately wanted a clear shot of the world's favourite actress (after Meryl obviously).

What I should have done was found a PR that night to get an audience with the gentle avuncular man who spoke at length that night. The one who has influenced so many portraits and art direction and layouts and style of the magazine I'd been working on for eight freakin' years.

Talk about missing the wood for the trees.
