Art Basel Hong Kong: 2026

 

Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 is scheduled for March 27–29, 2026 (public days), with preview/Vernissage days on March 25–26 (invitation only or special access). 

The photo does little justice to this piece that was in constant motion courtesy of cleverly concealed air ducts that made the fabric move like ocean waves. Many stood mesmerised just watching it ebb and flow. 

 Can't wait to see what's coming up; in conversation with curators, exhibitors and the odd gents from Sotheby's and Christie's to see what they are looking forward to. 

In this haze of constant doom scroll, shocking headlines, and a barrage of bad news, something to look forward to.

Back with a bang, there was indeed Murder on the Dancefloor as Sophie Ellis-Bextor crooned at Rosewood Hong Kong on the eve of Art Basel Hong Kong. Artists, gallerists, and those in their circles braced themselves ahead of the biggest art event in the city this year. Indeed, the 11th iteration of Art Basel Hong Kong culminated in a strong turnout and significant sales.

First Look: Art Basel Hong Kong 2024

 

Day 1 of Art Basel Hong Kong 2024. 

Of the roughly 242 galleries from 40 countries, these are some of the highlights we saw briefly, as HKCEC welcomed us to view great art and sculptures of every vintage from across Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe - some exhibiting for the very first time in the city. 

The opening day was meant to be a private affair, a handful of select invited VIPs to peruse at peace, but it was not meant to be. Already in the melee we saw a notable return to the fair's pre-pandemic scale, be it in number of guests, gallerists, artists and admirers. 

The champagne crowd was out in full force--thank you Ruinart for the bubbles btw--and we've already seen keen interest on some of the larger pieces and collages. Watch this space for more as our stringers head out in the coming busy-as-can-be days (and nights!) ahead.

The annual showcase is the most anticipated art event in the city.

With spring, we segue into the season of art, and details about Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 (ABHK24) are trickling in. Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 28 to 30 March 2024, with the Vernissage and media previews held on 26 and 27 March, we’re brushing over innumerable high-plaudit announcements of what’s soon to be on show.

One thing is clear: the 2024 iteration is returning with a bang. With 243 galleries from 40 countries and territories—that’s 66 more than last year—and five show sectors, ABHK24 is framing up to be the largest art event of the year, bar none. Here’s what to expect...

Matters of the Art: Art Basel Hong Kong Postponed

This time last year, we were running around like headless chickens trying to sort out the controlled chaos of work behind the scenes at Art Basel Hong Kong. Such a pity the 2020 event has been postponed - not cancelled - till further notice.

I strongly believe in the resilience and strength of Hong Kong and its people. HK will be back to the new normal... soon.

"This too shall pass."

Quick Timeline:

• 2020 — Cancelled (like the other editions) due to COVID-19.
• 2021 — Held in May 2021 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (in a hybrid/reduced format due to ongoing pandemic restrictions).
• 2022 and onward — Back to its regular March schedule with full in-person editions.
