Hong Kong Affirms Its Status as a Premier Luxury Destination

In conversation with Dr Pang Yiu-kai, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the big impact that Hong Kong makes on the global luxury market is discussed at length.

In an exclusive interview following the inaugural Leaders of Luxury Summit 2024, hosted by Robb Report Hong Kong on 27 November 2024 with support from the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Dr Pang Yiu-kai, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, shares his insights on the ever-evolving luxury landscape and Hong Kong’s pivotal role within it.

A formidable roster of delegates spoke on stage in a resoundingly positive and hopeful spirit as the conversations explored reshaping the future of luxury beyond Hong Kong. Its ripples reached far and wide as the words of the most significant players in industry, many of whom flew down especially for the event, resonated with the audience.

“When I first heard about the theme, ‘Redefining Luxury Through a Global Lens,’ I thought, ‘What better place to host such a forward-looking dialogue than Hong Kong?’” Dr Pang reflects on the overarching theme of the entire event. “Hong Kong is an ideal backdrop for such a discussion. As one of the fastest-growing luxury markets globally and the gateway to Mainland China, Hong Kong is strategically positioned to lead this conversation. With projections indicating that Mainland China will contribute 25 per cent of worldwide luxury sales by 2025, the timing of the Leaders of Luxury Summit is indeed opportune.”

This Landmark Restaurant Ushered In a Culinary Transformation of Luxury, Modern Chinese Dining, and It’s Celebrating a Decade of Innovation

On the eve of Mott 32’s decade, we dive into the restaurant’s faultless culinary expansion from Hong Kong to the world.

In the heart of Hong Kong, where tradition and modernity coalesce in harmony, Mott 32 stands as a beacon of elevated Chinese cuisine that’s homed in the basement of an iconic building—everything that was here was not supposed to work, a cavernous basement location with no street visibility and difficult access—and yet it did, and it’s become part of the DNA of our city. It’s a destination-dining must that’s wowed guests and critics alike for the past decade. Indeed, since its inception in 2014, this establishment has captivated guests, gourmands, and editors alike, earning accolades for its innovative approach to Chinese culinary traditions and exquisite interior design. Mott 32 is not merely a restaurant; it is an experience that redefines the boundaries of Chinese cuisine with novel takes, an elevation of traditional recipes with a global perspective and modernisation that’s second to none.

Editor's note: I genuinely love taking friends to or recommending international friends to pop by Mott 32 (and/or China Club but its a hassle to get a table there as I'm not a member!). When my gorgeous friend Fabrizia Caracciolo was briefly in town, she asked for recommendation for a final dinner somewhere before she jetted off. Part of Cabana magazine, I knew she'd enjoy the interiors of Mott 32 - just the visual, photogenic, Instagram-friendly space takes your breath away at first look. And she did. It's also where we take parents of friends when they come to Hong Kong, and its always fair game for celebrity sighting and voyeur vision on the who's who of society. Then there's the food. More on that at - well, my feature. So check it out! ;0)

Stefano Ricci’s New Campaign Is a Striking Visual Feast of Fashion, Landscape, and Wanderlust

The hills are alive—and this latest campaign scales breathtaking Peru in style.

Stefano Ricci presented its latest autumn-winter 2025–2026 collection with a stunning campaign that’s scaling new heights. Known for its effortless elegance and debonair flair, the menswear from the Italian maison has consistently peaked the Best of Style column almost annually with our critics as the Florentine fashion house has been on par with the finest threads since the 1970s. Its latest campaign, gloriously distracting, has once again stopped us in our tracks.

The “Mission Peru” theme, part of the brand’s latest expedition, is a grand extension of its consistent ideology of global exploration, a hallmark of the Ricci ethos of taking the road less travelled. And the visuals are breathtaking—we are absolutely besotted by the inspiration the team has found in the verdant landscapes of Peru. The mountainous terrain, the colour and attire of the indigenous people, and the striking contrast of monochrome full looks with the land’s natural hues are shot in panoramic glory in one of the wonders of the world.

When Versace reposted our shoot!

TBT: We did a cover shoot for Runway magazine, with my favourite team led by Dino Busch (photographer), Bhisan (stylist) and Yana (super duper model). There were two amazing shots that Dino took with a full Versace look that went viral online - before the term was popularised in the vernacular.

9 Best Jewellery Pieces, From Cartier and De Beers to Van Cleef & Arpels

Chopard

Is price no object? Put your shades on for this one—the razzle-dazzle is blinding.

For whom the (jingle) bells toll and money no object be, we at Robb Report Hong Kong have several dazzling accessories wrapped in a box… for thee.

Forgive us—‘tis the season for waxing poetic as designer houses have been sending us a glimmer of what to expect this season all week: a wild array of diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and gemstones of note. It came as a trickle and trinket, then a flash flood of candy-coloured stones as all the maisons and went all out for the end-of-year celebrations. A phalanx of rubies and emeralds was almost a predictable colour scheme, and a flush of white diamonds, and a heady mix of the classic and the novel are up for view as well. We parsed through the trough and found these glistening among them.

Our holiday picks include the usual suspects: Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co, of course, but our Robb Report counterparts stateside also encouraged us to look into Hemmerle and other jewellers who are paving the way with pavé diamonds.

Devialet’s Elegant New Astra Amplifier Is an Audiophile’s Dream

We tested a classic Simon & Garfunkle album on the new Devialet amplifier.

In a world where audio excellence is often an elusive pursuit, there are a handful of brands that are ever reliable (and often listed in our Best in Gear annual compendium). Devialet has consistently emerged as a beacon of innovation and luxury; every new drop is a highly anticipated event among technophiles and audiophiles. Now, the French acoustic engineering company has unveiled its latest masterpiece—the Devialet Astra, a high-end amplifier that promises to redefine the auditory experience for discerning listeners.

Launched in Hong Kong this past November, Robb Report Hong Kong went in for a spin (so to speak) as the hype and hoopla dusted down to spend some time with this avant-garde device that seamlessly harmonises cutting-edge technology with minimalist aesthetics, appealing to both audiophiles and design aficionados alike. Unfamiliar with new-age music, we requested a 1960s throwback album, and the Sound of Silence was palpably felt.

Style: Haute Headlines and History: A look at Menswear

Friday Fashion.

In the wake of Succession, the stealth-wealth phenomenon only continues to grow. According to Robb Report, fashion retailer Karen Millen analysed a trove of Google data to reveal that it was the year of “old-money style,” a search term that grew 568 per cent. Quasi-synonymous phrases such as “quiet luxury” (373 per cent) and “stealth wealth” (334 per cent) saw an equally dramatic spike in interest among the trillion-plus annual searches.

As men bequeathed with a sense of high fashion and high currency stocked up on legacy luxury brands, sales among the top-drawer designers were on a steady upwards incline, affected by neither politics nor pandemic. At the time of writing, LVMH earnings in the second quarter of 2023 reveal that “Asia held up the market” with a 34 per cent increase in the region, outperforming Europe and the US, and the company saw “double-digit sales growth,” according to Forbes.

Under the influence of refined taste, not influencers, heir and grace have always bent at the knee for the pride and privilege of being draped and dressed in exalted knits (Zegna and Loro Piana), exquisite craftsmanship (Hermès and Loewe), bespoke excellence (Ascot Chang), gear that can be passed on through many generations (Saint Laurent), and, of course, all things Italian (Prada, Armani, Stefano Ricci, Brunello Cucinelli, and even the quite quirky Moschino). Heck, an all-Italian menswear edition is not that far off course for all things haute and homme.

Although it’s the trend now, Robb Report has been featuring menswear in sombre shades and muted tones since memory serves, eschewing editorials on celebrity powered fads for paeans on fabric and construction. We study the sourcing of cashmere, vicuña, camel hair, and mulberry silk in legacy brands, and hold up a loupe to the artisans who embroider, stitch, and weave by hand the magnificent threads that outlive the seasons.

At the top of the fashion food chain this year, it’s a heady mix-and-match of the usual heavy hitters and the slow burn of the urban sophisticate, here to disrupt long-standing regimes of debonair menswear. Miu Miu, Loewe, and Prada jostled for the honour of “hottest brand of the year,” according to the quarterly Lyst Index, with Loewe coming out of left field to dominate Q2. Several notable brands made headlines, some even history, as the powers that be in the most valuable fashion companies in the world spent big money to showcase their wares. It was a gentleman’s agreement for the maisons to go all out for menswear (theatrics usually reserved for the gowns and glory of womenswear): the shows in the fashion capitals were splendid, be it in New York (Ralph Lauren’s grand return to New York Fashion Week), London (Burberry saw Daniel Lee debut and dazzle with the brand), Paris (Louis Vuitton with Pharrell Williams and all the stars of the firmament), and Milan (Prada showed it takes two—Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons—to tango), while Tom Ford went digital for his final parting shot, bidding his eponymous brand goodbye after selling it to Estée Lauder in 2022.

A special chapter in this edition of Best of the Best honours Ralph Lauren for a saga that continues to entrance the world, followed by a shoot featuring autumn winter looks and Lauren’s enviable collection of classic cars, harkening back to how Robb Report originally began—as a newsletter shared to classic car collectors and members of the Rolls-Royce Owners Club. It all comes full circle.

Family lunch: Jimmy's Kitchen

The chicken kiev, the baked Alaska... forever yummmm!

Had a four-hour family lunch at Jimmy's Kitchen and we had to end it with a coffee and Sticky Toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream.

True to form.
